Fighting a Common Cold?

It seems like everyone is coming down with the “ICK”… aka a virus. It seems to start as a common cold then progress into bronchial issues or strep. I’d like to say that I have a quick fix, but I don’t. I’ve found the best way to prevent it is through lifestyle and diet… Longterm lifestyle and diet. When you have a compromised immune system it takes time to rebuild and strengthen. If you eat a Standard American Diet then you have a compromised immune system. Don’t eat a Standard American Diet!

If you do come down with a bug then there are some things that you can do to speed up healing and hopefully prevent it from becoming something worse. I’m a huge fan of vitamin C with bioflavonoids. If you want to learn more about it I suggest picking up Curing the Incurable: Vitamin C, Infectious Diseases, and Toxins. The biggest mistake I see with vitamin C is not taking enough or often enough. Another favorite is oregano oil in liquid or capsules. I compare oregano oil to a mild antibiotic, so if taken early enough it’s very affective (but I suggest taking a probiotic during and after.) Core Olive Leaf is thought to prevent colds if taken as a preventative. I love core olive leaf because it’s wonderful at attacking the bad bacteria and keeping the good in check. According to Ayurvedic traditions, ginger warms the body and helps to break down the accumulation of toxins in the organs, particularly in the lungs and sinuses. Ayurveda also believes that ginger helps to cleanse the lymphatic system, which is our body’s sewage system.

It’s important to rest when you get sick. Your body heals and detoxifies at night while sleeping. Drink plenty of filtered water and keep exercise to a minimum.

Stay Healthy!
