Day 8 of My First Standard Process 21 Day Detox

IMG_1177I just hit the one week mark on the 21 day Purification Program by Standard Process. Since this is my first time doing it, I didn’t know what to expect. I’ve done other cleanses and I expected similar results of being tired, hungry and wanting “more”. This has not been the case for me on this plan. Yay!!!

Let me tell you about the positives first. I’ve lost 10.6 lbs, starting at 127.2 and at 116.6 this morning. Hips have gone from 35.5″ to 34″, waist from 27″ to 24″ and chest from 36″ to 35″. I can honestly say that weight loss was not my goal… Yea, I put on a few over the holidays, but nothing to worry about with my 5′ 6″ height and athletic build. What was my big goal? Energy was my priority! Well, it’s only day 8 and I feel amazing. For three days in a row my hair isn’t falling out in handfuls (#thyroidproblems) and I haven’t needed or wanted naps. These were not things that I expected to really happen and definitely not this fast.

Now, let me tell you what sucked. Yea, the no coffee was my least favorite. I had a grinding headache turning into migraine on day one. I ended up taking an ibuprofen, which I’m not proud of. I felt like I was undoing the benefit of no caffeine on my liver by taking ibuprofen. Day two wasn’t any better and I caved and had 4 oz of strong coffee. I continued the 4 oz of daily coffee until yesterday. Today I’m coffee free with no headache.

I’m a meat-eater and had a bit of trepidation around being meat free for 10 days, I opted to add whey protein in since liver doesn’t need to process that…. This put me at 75g protein daily. After the first day, my craving for meat was almost not there. I feel energetic, satisfied and almost disappointed that the vegetarian portion of program is almost complete.

I’m looking forward to checking in next week and updating you on my progress. I’m getting the feeling my skin is getting ready to purge since I noticed the beginning of a pimple… I don’t break out so I’m not looking forward to that.

In health!
